CHEAP SUNGLASSES

Glen and Cary were blessed to be doing the Lord’s work but were burdened under the load that their ministry was placing on them. Glen, especially, had taken a stance that he would take care of the “little foxes” that were attempting to spoil his relationship and his ministry when he had enough time- but there never seemed to be enough “time”.

Meanwhile, on their Standing Stone visit, even seemingly small things were going wrong for Glen. He lost his favorite pair of sunglasses that were expensive and important to him. And the only loaner pair at the retreat looked like they came as the free toy in a cereal box. As a person who valued style and flair, Glen was looking the opposite of debonair.

That morning, as they were discussing the need for Glen to move forward on some of the ‘little fox’ issues, Pat a Standing Stone mentor told Glen that he needed to stop trying to find time and “Just Do It”, like the Nike ad says. It was a turning point in the conversation. Later that day, the couples hiked through the forest, with Glen’s cheap sunglasses leading the way.

As they meandered, a pair of beautiful, unscathed designer sunglasses lay on the path before them. It was as if God placed them there for Glen as a special gift. Glen put them on, and, when he turned sideways, a Nike logo was in plain sight on the sunglasses. God underlined, in a language Glen could hear, His applauding of the “Just Do It” conversation. Today Glen and Cary have put into place safeguards they learned at Standing Stone to corral those pesky ‘little foxes’ that try to get into their ministry and marriage.
